WHO CAN TEACH

An active instructor, certified by Avelo and affiliated with an Avelo Dive Center.

STUDENT TO INSTRUCTOR RATIO

Academic
Unlimited, provided that adequate facilities, supplies, and time are provided to ensure thorough and complete training of the subject matter.

Water Training
A maximum of 1 to 6. Avelo Instructor Trainer to Avelo Pro candidates. It is at the discretion of the Avelo Instructor Trainer to reduce this number as conditions dictate.

AVELO PRO CANDIDATE PREREQUISITES

1. Must be an active and insured (if applicable) open water scuba instructor.
2. Swim test (IT will inform students on how the test is provided): 400 meter swim in under 15 minutes
3. 10-minute tread (last 2 minutes hands-free)
4. Have a minimum of 10 Avelo dives.
5. Have completed at least one RAD class before the start of the Pro class.

Avelo Instructor candidates must demonstrate that they have a minimum of the following standard diving certifications:

75 total of OW, AOW, freediving, rescue, or equivalents*; or 20 total of OW, AOW, freediving, rescue, or equivalents; and 10 Avelo guided dives**.

Note

Discover Scuba Divers, Try Scuba Divers, or their equivalent certifications will be counted as one Open Water certification at a ratio of 5:1.

*If an instructor does not have the required 75 certifications but believes they can achieve them within 6 months, they may take the Avelo Pro class. Once they reach the necessary qualifications, they can contact their Avelo Instructor Trainer to have their Avelo Instructor certification activated. If the requirements are not met within 6 months, it will be necessary to repeat the Avelo Pro exam or the entire Avelo Pro course (at your expense), which will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

*Once the Avelo Pro course is completed, the instructor will be prepared to teach the RAD certification without additional restrictions.

**If an instructor has more than 20 qualified certifications in total and 10 Avelo guided dives, they can take the class. Once the course is completed, the first 4 RADs they teach will be restricted to a 1:1 ratio. The first RAD they teach must be shadowed. The first RAD they teach must be guided by a fully qualified Avelo Instructor. The fifth RAD can have a 2:1 ratio and must be supervised by a fully qualified Avelo instructor. At that point, Avelo’s restrictions will be lifted.

Regardless of the instructor’s situation, once the Avelo requirements are completed, the CAD always has the right to impose its own ratio restrictions.
